While on a rather exciting expedition through what is known as the Caprivi Strip or the Zambezi Region of Namibia, I found myself getting all too comfortable with my surroundings. Before I knew it, I was crossing the border into Botswana and heading into the Okavango Delta. I followed the Cubango River south until I reached my destination. I ditched my 4x4 and started cruising the Cubango River with my camera ready. After photographing many river dwelling mammals, I could not help but photograph a specific individual aggressively moving on the side of the river. The individual was covered in mud, almost making the animal unidentifiable, but it turned out to be a large male Cape Buffalo. The male was rolling around in what seemed to be a highly concentrated area of mud, where shortly after, the Buffalo had begun to make its way into a dense area of tall grass. This is where his strong appearance stood out to me. The photograph was taken as a spot of light through the tree shone onto his muddy head, allowing his horns to stand out prominently from the grassy surroundings. The individual brought attitude and character to my lens, allowing me to obtain that dramatic image that I was looking for.
This print is beautifully presented in a conservation window mount and outlined with a classic black gallery frame. Over this print is a sheet of art glass that protects the print but show off the photograph’s full potential. Fernley has designed this print to bring an African feel to a modern home or room that is in need for a strong and dominant subject of interest. The Buffalo in this image however brings an emphasis of power and will certainly create conversation wherever the print will hang.
