After a rather long and hot journey over the harsh and rugged hills of Damaraland and finally arriving in the small village of Purros, I set foot in the land of the Desert Elephant. The location that I searched was dry, bright, and lacking in life. I questioned myself of how these elephants could live in such harsh locations. The Desert Elephant has adapted to living in some of the harshest environments on the planet, with approximately only 600 remaining on the planet. As I patrolled the dried river that ran through the desert, a small herd emerged into the open. A combination of dust, emotion and fascination overwhelmed my lens enticing me to get closer to these rare and fascinating giants. One of the Elephants stood out from the others. The side on shot brings this giants structure into full view allowing the viewer to embrace this animal’s rare adaptation on the barren sands of Africa.
This print is beautifully presented in a conservation window mount and outlined with a classic black gallery frame. Over this print is a sheet of art glass that protects the print but shows off the photograph’s full potential. Fernley has designed this print to bring an African feel to a modern home or empty space. This Desert Elephant of Namibia, in this image however brings an emphasis of rarity and emotion to a room of where this print will hang.
