East Africa Photo Safaris Led by Award-Winning Wildlife Photographer Mark A Fernley

Mark A Fernley is an award-winning wildlife photographer and safari leader specialising in the extraordinary wildlife of East Africa and beyond. His personal image library spans the vast savannahs of Kenya, the Serengeti plains of Tanzania, the rainforests of Uganda and remote corners across the African continent.

Through his photography, Mark captures not only iconic species, but the raw drama, fragile ecosystems and fleeting moments that define life in the wild. His work has received multiple international awards, reflecting a deep commitment to excellence and authenticity in wildlife storytelling.

Alongside his personal photographic projects, Mark leads small-group photo safaris across East Africa, guiding photographers into some of the continent’s most remarkable landscapes. These safaris are designed to provide intimate wildlife encounters, expert photographic guidance and the opportunity to create powerful images in the field.

Through both his galleries and his safari experiences, Mark invites you to immerse yourself in Africa’s untamed beauty - to witness, to photograph and to connect with the wild on a deeper level.

"Black and white African wildlife photography is strong and raw. Taking away the distractions of colour and letting the texture of the animal shine, Monochrome opens a whole new world to viewing wildlife". - Mark A Fernley

Mark's tailor-made mentorship programs are designed for photographers at all levels, and together you will focus on enhancing your skills, creative vision, and technical know-how. Embark on an adventure that transforms your photography journey and helps you unleash your full potential.

I’m drawn to creating close-up portraits of African wildlife because of the power they hold. Wide-angle wildlife photography, when used with intention, pulls the viewer directly into the environment and creates a sense of immediacy that borders on confrontation. It’s meant to unsettle in the best possible way. By combining intimate proximity with expansive context, my goal is to place the observer inside the moment close enough to feel the breath, the tension, and the raw truth of the scene as it unfolded.
